Osteopathy

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathic manual practitioners believe that the body works as a whole integrated system. They work to support the body’s innate ability to heal itself by maintaining, improving, and restoring physiological functioning of the intertwined systems and structures within our bodies. They use manual assessment and treatments to recognize and ease the root cause of restrictions, constrictions and pain. These techniques can also be used to reduce swelling, improve tissue mobility, and promote overall optimal functioning and healing in all ages.

osteopathic treatment can help with acute or chronic pain, digestive problems, menstrual irregularities, breastfeeding difficulties, muscle spasms, respiratory difficulties, and postural problems.

Treatments methods utilized include:

Soft tissue manipulation – involves regulating the body’s fluids (blood, lymph, etc.) to ensure its smooth flow promoting optimal functioning. Ensuring good flow of neuro-vascular fluids prevents harmful retention and allows the body’s immune system to function effectively.

Articular manipulation – involves joints and ligaments and is used to reduce muscle spasms, reduce neurological irritations, improve joint mobility, and remove pain and discomfort. This technique utilizes gentle joint mobilization.

Visceral manipulation – this manipulation encourages and influences the better function of the lungs, liver, spleen, kidneys, stomach, pancreas, intestines, the bladder, and the uterus. It’s through gentle manipulation of their surrounding structures that promote optimized organ, physiological and neurological, response and function.
